Digging In: Learning to Study the Bible
Put 25 students in a room for a weekend with boxes of colored markers, an
experienced leader, and God's inspired Word, and life-changing things can
happen. We call it a "Dig-In." You might call it one of the most valuable
weekends of your life because you will learn the skill of carefully studying
the Bible for yourself and hear a word from God. You have six Bible
selections from which to choose.
1 Samuel
Exploring,
through manuscript Bible Study in 1 Samuel, what it means to follow and lead
in such a way that we become know a “man or woman after God’s own heart”.
What is
success? How do personal gifts and abilities fit into the equation? Does
ethics and personal character matter? After an overview of the book of 1
Samuel, the focus will be on chapters 16-18, exploring why did David success
as king of Israel when Saul failed so miserably? What was it about David
himself, his family, his background and his abilities that helped him to
succeed? And even in the midst of David’s personal failings, (the murder of
Bathsheba’s husband and David’s adultery with Bathsheba is the big one?),
why does God identify David as a man after God’s own heart? Using
Inductive Bible study skills in a manuscript format, we will explore these
questions together to discover answers.
